Celebrating Spring In The Mera Peak

By Traverse Line (30+ days ago)

Mera Park Mountain lies in the Sagarmatha region of Nepal. It is the popular trekking peak with 3 main summits: - Mera North, Mera Central and Mera South. Out of the three peaks, the Central Mera is easy to climb and suited for inexperienced trekkers and mountain climbers. Mera Park is the highest trekking peak in the Kumbh (Everest) Valley. The trekkers require being physically fit to climb this mountain though the mountain is not too sloppy.

Many trekking and climbing clubs organize a Mera Peak climbing expedition in spring. They provide you with the itinerary for spring Mera Park climbing that consists of: -

• Arriving In Kathmandu: - One can arrive in Kathmandu via airplane. In Kathmandu, all the necessary preparations for the trekking are made. This includes meeting with the guide, checking equipment for the peak climbing and shopping for the trek, if any.
• Trekking to Mera Peak: - This includes flying from Kathmandu to Lukla and staying there for a day for acclimatization. The next day, trekking begins from Lukla to Chutanga that extends for around 4-5 hours. The trek from Chutanga to Kothe via Zatrwa La Pass and Thuli Kharka is for 10 hours. The south face of Mera Peak can be best viewed while trekking from Kothe to Tangnang.
• One can rest at Tangnang and visit the surrounding areas, mainly the Sabal Tsho Lake or hike to the flank of Kusum Kangguru.
• The next day the trekking extends from Tangnang to Khare for 3-4 hours and from Khare to Mera Base camp for 4-5 hours.
• Climbing the Mera Peak: - The climbing begins on the next day from Mera base camp to the High camp, which takes around 4-5 hours. Following this is the Summit day that includes trekking from High Camp to the Summit Mera Peak and back to Khare.
• Return journey: - The return journey from Khare consists of trekking from Khare to Kothe (5 hours), Kothe to Thuli (for 6 hours) and Thuli Kharka to Lukla via Zatrwa La Pass. From Lukla, a plane to Kathmandu is arranged followed by a stay in Kathmandu fir sightseeing and shopping.

One can contact the trekking clubs before reaching Nepal to ensure a perfect mountain climbing experience. Since the ideal time for Mera Park climbing is during springs (March, April and May), because of visibility and weather, tourist can plan their trip to Nepal accordingly.
