You may've not heard of poly pipe fusion before, right? That’s not unusual, but you probably want to know what on earth poly pipe fusion is, if I’m correct. Well you just may find this article interesting, read on…
So here goes. Poly Pipe Electrofusion, for those that are interested, is an electrical coil contained within a poly pipe socket fitting. The polyethylene pipe and fitting is heated by the electrical coil to a nominated temperature, so as to melt the fitting and the polyethylene pipe that it is being welded to, in a controlled fashion, causing the two items to be joined and become as one part. Poly electrofusion utilises a 230V electrical control box, which by means of a transformer, lowers the volts and increases the amps. This machine is plugged into the fusion socket via two low volt leads, for the duration of the weld. Nothing too difficult here. Quite simple in fact.
So what are the benefits of poly fusion? Well, poly pipe fusion offers unparalleled flexibility as a method of joining hdpe pipe. An electro-fusion weld can be performed easily on-site in the trench with only small set-up times. In common sizes, pressure testing of the pipe can be performed within an hour of welding. Wow that makes it so easy!
So how powerful is electro-fusion? Stronger than the pipe the electrofusion is being welded to. Large weld zones on the external of the pipe means that the weld surface area or contact area is maximised, reducing risk of failure and maximising pressure potential of the pipeline. Reduced failure rates means reduced downtime and maintenance costs, and most importantly, a reputation for high quality works that can be recommended to other potential clients.

Maximised flows are possible with Electrofusion. Due to electrofusion causing no internal beads that disrupts flow, and polyethylene being a low friction material, friction losses are kept to an absolute minimum and far less than all metal type piping. Maximised flows reduce pump costs, and reduce the sizing of pipe required, allowing greater ROI.

Thankfully, installation is very easy with simple electrofusion tooling and can be performed by persons with only 2 days of training. There are many training facilities Australia wide and I’d guarantee that if you make the small investment it will pay off.

Electrofusion provides a life span of 50 - 100 years. Electrofusion allows jointing in tight access areas and can be used with Poly Pipe in all colour stripes, including Blue Stripe, Yellow Stipe, Red Stripe, Green Stripe and plain Black.

So what should I do with my next pipe order? Well definitely consider poly pipe as the material of choice and we’d suggest you consider the advantages of using poly electrofusion to join it together.
That’s all I have for now
