Founded in 2012, but my venture with Mantus Anchors started several years before in Cartagena, Colombia, half way through my 12-months sailing adventure in Latin America. At the time, still a novice sailor, I quickly discovered how anxiety-provoking anchoring could be. I definitely had my share of close calls and nights spent awake in the cockpit frightened by the howling wind. Cold and drenched in rain I’d try to keep from hitting my neighbors. I grew frustrated that my 45 lbs CQR would often not set or would drag if the winds increased above 25 knots; my secondary anchor was an FX 37 Fortess that I could always turn to as a back-up. Even then I never felt comfortable leaving Coconut unattended if the wind topped 20 knots. I realized that the question often is not of holding power but whether the anchor set properly in the first place. Being an Emergency Room physician by trade I live by the motto “Preparation is Key”. I wanted to always be ready for the worst blow and have the best ground tackle. I could not accept the setting ability of the anchors on the market and set out to design a new anchor that would set reliably in any bottom, break down for easy storage, and be as durable as any anchor out there.

Deneen & I met in 2010 after both competing in a popular off-shore regatta. A Structural Engineer by profession, her experience with design, testing and analysis was a great asset as I headed into development. After several years of hard work, utilizing our sailing experience as well as feedback from sailors around the world “The Mantus” was born from countless iterations, and years of field testing.

Standing on its mission of performance, durability and customer service, Mantus Anchors is here to make you boating experience more enjoyable and safer.

Mantus anchors are designed to not only have excellent holding power, but are designed specifically to disassemble and store in a extremely compact manner. Some owners simply keep the shipping box for onboard storage. No protruding anchor stocks or tips to damage other gear or toes!

Whether you are a long-range cruiser, racer, or going out for a day trip, the Mantus anchor breaks down for easy storage. You can store one or two as spares without taking up much needed boat space.
